Halo 2 PC Has no DirectX 10 Support

Posted in Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo

It’s been rumored for a long time that the PC version of Halo 2 will not support Direct X 10 despite being a Vista only game, however, today those rumors have become concrete fact. This is a real bummer, as many people were excited for the new effects DX10 would allow. You can read the article here: No DX10 for Halo 2.

Moving on, who says gamers aren’t multi talented? A musically gifted Halo fan has written and recorded a song dedicated to Halo entitled the “Mjolnir Song.” You can view the lyrics here: Mjolnir Song Lyrics. If you want to listen to the song, you can check it out here:

The song is kindly hosted by Bungie.org.

Halo 3 Screenshot Writeups

You may have seen my post sometime last week about Bungie releasing some new Halo 3 screenshots. Well, it seems as if I missed a coinciding Bungie article in which they disect 3 of the screenshots and tell us everything that’s happening in said screen.

Halo 3

They chose one screenshot each from the three multiplayer maps they’ve been recently touting, Valhalla, High Ground, and Snowbound. Especially nice is the Valhalla discussion, in which they go into detail about the brand new vehicle, the Mongoose.

Check out all the sweet discussion here: Halo 3 Screenshot Discussion

Just another quick tidbit before I sign off for today, IGN has just released a 1 year retrospective on the Xbox 360, and guess what? Halo gets mentioned quite a few times. Who’da thunk it? Check it out here: IGN 360 Retrospective

What? There Might not be a Halo Movie?

Robbie Bach
If you’re reading this site, you’ve probably heard of the “upcoming sometime in the future” Halo movie. Unfortunately, it now seems as if the movie is not a sureshot thing. In a recent interview, Robbie Bach, Microsoft’s President of Entertainment and Devices, hinted that if Microsoft doesn’t find an outside backer for the Halo movie, they most likely won’t make it at all.

Bach believes Microsoft itself should not be involved in the movie business, therefore, if no backer comes along, Microsoft will simply pass on the movie. Hopefully a studio picks this up, as a Halo movie would be sure to pull in big bucks. I mean honestly, the only person that could make that film flop would be the dreaded Uwe Boll.

Invalid Mob, a Finnish gaming clan, have collected a plethora of Halo based flash games on their site. They’ve got 17 total now; I have no idea where they found all these, as I’ve looked and only seen 3 or 4. They’ve got everything from launching warthogs to racing banshees to a sweet side scrolling CTF halo. You can check out all the games here: Halo Flash Games

In other news, the new Static Episode 5 is available. The episode is entitled “What Would my Daughter Think?” and in it, Alex has a near death experience and is forced to figure out his next move (I don’t want to give more away than that). Check it out here: Static Episode 5

PS. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

First off today, we’ve got news that, in honor of Halo Week, the latest OXM (Official XBox Magazine) podcast contains exclusive interviews with members of the Halo dev team. The podcast is over an hour long (killer for those with no time on their hands, ie. me); during the podcast they discuss such topics as the new Halo announcements this week, Ghosts of Onyx and many more. You can check the podcast out here: Halo Podcast

In other news, if you’re an incredibly rich person I’ve just found a great opportunity for you to immortalize your name. As part of Penny Arcade’s Charity Auction Dinner, Bungie has listed up a great package for sale. If you were to win, you would get a personalized tour of Bungie PLUS a line of dialogue in Halo 3 dedicated to you. How sweet is that? Read all about Child’s Play here: Child’s Play

Big Halo News this Week

Halo Logo
Yes! In celebration of Halo’s 5 year anniversary, Bungie has announced that sometime this week, they will be giving us some big, no HUGE, Halo news.

Frankie of the Bungie team posted this,

“If you thought there was a lot of Halo information last week, wait ‘till next week. A bunch of stuff is going down to celebrate the 5th anniversary of a little game we like to call Halo. In November 2001, Halo launched alongside the Xbox console, and the rest is history. Next year, Halo 3 will conclude the story arc begun all those years ago and next week, we’ll take a long lingering look at the series to date. There will also be some pretty BIG surprises and maybe announcements. Who can say?”

I’m hoping this means more Halo 3 news, maybe even a new trailer! I guess we’ll have to wait and see though. We’re in for a crazy weekend (PS3 and Wii launches, plus this mystery news).

Be sure to check back this weekend, as I’ll be posting the news as soon as its released.

$500 Halo 3 Masterchief Stained Glass up on eBay

I found another cool Halo auction on Ebay. This time its a leaded stained glass Halo 3 window made by Jacob’s Stained Glass in Buffalo, NY. The price is $500 right now; unfortunately, it is only available for local pickup in Buffalo. This intricate piece even includes reflective orange glass for the visor! You can check out the auction here: Halo 3 Stained Glass

In other news, you may have forgotten, but today is Halo 2’s birthday! Halo 2 is now 2 years old and still going strong.

Black Guard has collected an awesome set of Halo 2 cakes from around the web. You can check them out here: Halo 2 Cakes. Some of the cakes are truly works of art, my favorite is definitely Steven Evolved’s cake (in the picture above).

And finally, Dennis Powers has released the third episode of Static. You can check out the video here: Halo Static
